Player Profile- Garrison Smith

Garrison Smith is a defensive tackle from Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia . Smith recently committed to the University of Georgia so I know that Head Coach Mark Richt will do everything he can to make Smith a better football player. He is six feet four inches weighing two hundred and fifty pounds. His forty time is is a four minute and seven seconds so I know he can get off the ball quickly. Smith finished his Junior season with one hundred and eight tackles, twenty-seven of those for loss, fourteen sacks, and seven fumbles recovered/forced. He has great strength and says, "I can bench about four-hundred and five pounds and squat five-hundred pounds."
Smith has the ability to play on both the inside and the outside on the next level,  but he is a perfect fit for the three technique for defensive tackle. He is very strong at the point of attack, does an excellent job of staying on the backside to check on reverses or cutbacks, and he pursues the football at parallel angles.
Smith can become the defensive tackle that can play the run and pressure the quarterback. Since he is so light though some coaches believe that he should play defensive end.  His scouts believe he should gain a little more weight so he can withstand the college level.
